Boasting iconic cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the UAE offers diverse attractions for everyone. Immerse yourself in luxury experiences, view breathtaking desert landscapes through thrilling safaris, or unwind on pristine beaches. Explore the country’s heritage at vibrant souks and discover its historical gems in well-preserved museums and heritage villages.
Whether you’re interested in modern marvels, cultural exploration, outdoor adventures, or luxurious experiences, the UAE promises an unforgettable time. Whether for a last-minute or family holiday, there’s something new to see, whatever your age or interests.
The history of the UAE is deeply rooted in its nomadic past, where Bedouin tribes crossed the desert landscape. In the 18th century, the region’s coastal towns prospered through fishing, pearling, and maritime trade. During the 19th century, the British signed treaties with individual emirates to protect their interests in the Gulf.
In 1971, six of these emirates united to form the UAE, with Ras Al-Khaimah joining shortly after. The discovery of oil in the mid-20th century transformed the UAE into a wealthy nation, fuelling rapid development, infrastructure projects and modernisation. Today, the UAE is known for its impressive skyline, world-class tourism, economic diversification efforts, and its position as a regional and global hub for trade and commerce.
The UAE boasts a rich and diverse culture deeply influenced by its Arab and Islamic heritage. Emiratis take pride in their warm hospitality, traditional dress and adherence to Islamic customs and values.
The UAE has a desert climate with extremely hot and long summers lasting from May to September, featuring scorching temperatures that can reach over 40°C (104°F). Winters, from November to April, are milder and more comfortable, with temperatures averaging between 20 and 30°C (68– 86°F).
There’s very little rain throughout the year, and the country is mostly dry, experiencing occasional sandstorms. Coastal areas benefit from the cooling influence of the sea, making them relatively moderate in temperature.
The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to April when the weather is milder and you can enjoy outdoor activities and beach visits, and explore the country’s attractions without the extreme heat of the summer.
Winter coincides with various festivals and events, providing a chance to experience Emirati culture and traditions. Although it is the peak tourist season, the weather and festive atmosphere make it the ideal time for a memorable trip.
If you do decide to visit between May and October, be prepared for the intense summer heat and plan outdoor activities accordingly, opting for indoor attractions during these hottest months.
The food and drink is a blend of flavours influenced by Arabian, Persian, Indian and African cuisines. Traditional Emirati dishes include rich and aromatic stews, such as Harees (slow-cooked wheat and meat) and Machbous (spiced rice with meat or seafood). Lamb, chicken and fish are commonly used in Emirati cuisine, complemented by fragrant spices.
In the cities, international cuisine is readily available, catering to diverse palates. For non-Muslim visitors, there are also several places to enjoy alcoholic beverages in licensed establishments.
