Family – With beaches both in resort and larger ones close by in Gümbet, Bodrum is a great choice for a family beach holiday. The Aquapark Dedeman is also close by, and with its slides, flumes, and rubber ring rapids it makes for a wonderful family day out. Families with older children may wish to visit some of Bodrum’s archaeological sites, such as the amazing amphitheatre and the impressive crumbled remains of Pedasa Antique City. At Bodrum’s centre you’ll be able to tour the marina, which has space for more than 450 glamorous yachts.

Couples – Couples come to Bodrum for the coastline, the history, the food, and the nightlife. It’s the perfect getaway for any couple looking for a Turkey holiday with beautifully warm weather and a taste for the exotic. There are adventures to try out for brave couples who want to experience caving and diving, and then afterwards – or for anyone who prefers relaxation – there are traditional Turkish hammams, where you can be pampered with massages and the soothing sauna-like heat. In the evening, after a sumptuous Turkish meal, the nightlife provides all the fuel you’ll need for a party or a romantic evening for two.

Nightlife – Everything you’ve heard about Bodrum’s explosive nightlife is probably true – it’s amazing! All across the mile-long Bodrum Bar Street and Bodrum Tekilacilar Street there are drinking spots serving cocktails and blasting out live music, as well as nightclubs hosting dance shows, foam nights, and exciting DJ sets. A highlight is the Catamaran Disco, which is a glass-bottomed boat whose vibrant lights illuminate the sea and the marine life below. There are also plenty of nearby resorts offering their own exciting night-time entertainment such as Gümbet, Gumusluk, and Turkbuku.

Activities – As with many other Turkish resorts, Bodrum offers a wide choice of watersports and adrenaline-fuelled activities to enjoy. Jet skis and paragliding, white water rafting and banana boats, wakeboarding and ringoing (a towable tube ride) – if you’re a bit adventurous at heart, you won’t run out of pulse-pounding entertainment. If you prefer something a little more low-key and relaxing, a boat trip with the chance of seeing some dolphins is sure to please.

Culture – Despite its ruined state, one of the most significant historic sites in Bodrum is the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Castle of St Peter – also known as Bodrum Castle – is a fortification built from 1402 onwards, which has seen a great deal of action over the centuries and houses the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. If you hire a car, you can also visit the Temple of Apollo, which is another set of impressive ruins that were once a giant Greek temple dedicated to the god Apollo.

Annual events – In May, the Bodrum Bicycle Festival sees cyclists cycling through almost every bicycle trail in the area, as well as live music, dance shows, and other activities. If you like your holidays with some culture, the Bodrum International Ballet Festival in August is a popular and beautiful way to enjoy the talents and performances of countless renowned dancers. The Bodrum Cup Wooden Yacht Regatta is an annual race in October where you can either watch the wooden yachts sail by, or even sign up as a passenger on one of the vessels!

Getting around – Most visitors will either rent a car or spend their holiday riding minibuses known as dolmus, which are very well-priced. You can now take Ubers in Bodrum, too, which makes getting around during your Turkey holiday even easier.

Tranca Restaurant – Sit and dine by the sea in this restaurant serving up local Turkish dishes, fresh seafood, Mediterranean and more.

La Pasion Restaurant – This beautiful, moderately-priced restaurant offers Mediterranean, Spanish, and European foods, has a great wine list, and offers romantic outside seating.

Marina Yacht Club Restaurant – For something a little special, you can indulge in this stylish restaurant’s delicious seafood, European flavourings, and Mediterranean meals.

Peter’s Place – Just down the road in Gümbet is this welcoming family-run restaurant, which offers a tasty menu influenced by both Turkish and Irish culture and cuisine. Nice prices too!

Rick’s Place – Want a taste from home? Then enjoy massive portions of typical British dishes at this Gümbet restaurant.

Fener Beach – This is the perfect spot to try some watersports, and you’ll find windsurfing and kitesurfing as well as a fun, lively atmosphere.

Gümüşlük Beach – Good for families because of the water which doesn’t run too deep, this sand-and-shingle beach lies close beside a harbour filled with delicious seafood restaurants.Gümüşlük Beach – Good for families because of the water which doesn’t run too deep, this sand-and-shingle beach lies close beside a harbour filled with delicious seafood restaurants.

Gümbet Beach – A soft-sand beach that’s perfect for families with both young and older children. If the shallow waters aren’t quite exciting enough for teens or mums and dads, there is also waterskiing and banana boat rides to enjoy.

Torba Beach – This lies 4 miles north of Bodrum Town. Loungers, wooden jetties, and shade provided by the trees make this charming beach a great place to head – especially if you would like somewhere that’s slightly quieter than Gümbet.
